Truth In Capacity

When a long term MI reseller was constantly being challenged about highest capacity available in the protected 18650 battery size, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

“I was getting sick of people saying that our 3500mAh Panasonics were not indeed, market leading”

For the princely sum of $26AUD, he was supplied 10 x 3.7V 6000mAh 18650 size Lithium Ion cells.

His expectations were soon realised when the true capacity, as tested to the IEC standard, was less than 10% of the stated capacity. Infact, MI tested one of the ten on the Cadex 7400 analyser where it only achieved 420mAh!

MI employs a “truth in capacity” ethos, with all of its products, and sources through official sales channels to avoid counterfeit products. The MI Battery Experts and Xtar branded Lithium Ion protected batteries use quality cells from Panasonic, Sanyo, Samsung and other industry recognised manufacturers to provide consistent performance, capacity and extended service life.

We can’t vouch for the sales strategies of the manufacturer of these 6Ah cells, maybe the missing 5580mAh was a weight saving ploy to get market advantage? Perhaps not! This appears to be just another example of fraudulent misrepresentation, as is so common on the internet today.

The old adage “If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is” is very apt when internet shopping.
